And firm sanctions will be imposed against the Israeli government,\u201d the Belgian foreign minister wrote on the X social media platform early on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Prevot said Belgium would also impose 12 \u201cfirm sanctions\u201d on Israel \u201cincluding a ban on importing products from the settlements\u201d and \u201ca review of public procurement policies with Israeli companies\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the announcement was made \u201cin light of the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Palestine, particularly in Gaza.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the end of July, President Emmanuel Macron announced that France would recognise the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly, which will be held from September 9 to 23 in New York.<\/p>\n<p>Following this, several other countries have announced that they will do the same, although some have said they intend to place conditions on their recognition.<\/p>\n<p>Some 147 countries, representing 75 percent of UN members, already recognised Palestinian statehood as of April this year.<\/p>\n<p>Belgium\u2019s announcement comes as Israel\u2019s war on Gaza has killed at least 63,459 people and wounded 160,256 more.<\/p>\n<p>In July, Belgian prosecutors referred a war crimes complaint against two Israeli soldiers to the International Criminal Court (ICC), following allegations that they participated in atrocities in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p><em>This is a breaking news story.
