The film drew a 5.5-minute standing ovation, with hoots of approval as Roberts and her fellow cast embraced before the crowd on the theater\u2019s balcony.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<em>After the Hunt<\/em>\u00a0is described as a psychological drama about a college professor played by Roberts, who finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when her star student (Ayo Edebiri) accuses her colleague (Andrew Garfield) of assault. As events unfold, a dark secret from the professor\u2019s past threatens to be revealed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMichael Stuhlbarg\u00a0and\u00a0Chlo\u00eb Sevigny also co-star in the film. Guadagnino directed from a script by Nora Garrett.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Italian director and his cast walked a decidedly damp Venice red carpet on their way into the premiere, as the water city was hit with a deluge shortly before the screening got underway.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBut it was all smiles when the credits rolled. The cast embraced and Roberts blew kisses into the crowd.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tRoberts addressed the potentially provocative nature of the film at a press conference earlier in the day in Italy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of old arguments that get rejuvenated in this movie in a way that does create conversation,\u201d she said in response to a journalist\u2019s question about whether <em>After the Hunt<\/em> could be interpreted as anti-feminist. \u201cThe best part of your question is you talking about how you all came out of the theater\u00a0talking\u00a0about [the film], and that\u2019s how we wanted it to feel \u2014 that everybody comes out with all these different feelings, emotions, and points of view. You realize what you believe in strongly and what your convictions are because we stir it all up for you.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tGuadagnino debuted most of his celebrated filmography in Venice, from his first feature, <em>The Protagonists <\/em>(1999), through <em>I Am Love<\/em>\u00a0(2009), <em>A Bigger Splash<\/em> (2015), <em>Suspiria<\/em>\u00a0(2018), <em>Bones and All<\/em> (2022), and <em>Queer<\/em> (2024). He won the festival\u2019s Silver Lion for best director with <em>Bones and All<\/em>, his romantic horror film starring Taylor Russell\u00a0and\u00a0Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet\u00a0as a pair of young\u00a0cannibals in love.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAmazon MGM Studios releases\u00a0<em>After the Hunt<\/em>\u00a0in U.S. theaters on Oct. 17.
