\n\t\u201cFight Song\u201d singer Rachel Platten is looking to take back ownership of her music, and she\u2019s taking a page out of Taylor Swift\u2018s playbook to do it. <\/p>\n
\n\tOn Monday, Platten announced that she\u2019ll be releasing an album of \u201cRachel\u2019s Versions\u201d next month, which will include her signature \u201cFight Song\u201d along with other tracks like \u201cStand By You\u201d and Better Place\u201d from her 2016 album Wildfire.<\/em><\/p>\n \n\t\u201cNow, as we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Fight Song, I\u2019ve gone back to some of my originals, not to change them, but to reclaim them,\u201d Platten wrote on Instagram on Monday. \u201cThis is about more than just new versions of old songs; the new Rachel\u2019s Versions are infused with the voice I have now, the wisdom I\u2019ve gained, and the undeniable pride of owning my own masters. I\u2019m grateful to\u00a0Taylor Swift\u00a0for bringing this conversation to light and empowering artists to take back control over their work, their stories, and their futures.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tPlatten said that original Wildfire <\/em>producer Jon Levine worked with her for the re-recorded versions, which will officially be released on Sept. 26.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cMost importantly, thank you to all of you, who have stood by me over these years,\u201d Platten wrote on Monday. \u201cI can\u2019t wait for you to hear them again \u2014 this time, fully, completely, and unapologetically mine.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tPlatten also announced a concert to celebrate \u201cFight Song\u2019s\u201d 10-year anniversary, with the show taking place Oct. 16 in Irving Plaza in New York.<\/p>\n \n\tAs Platten suggested in her post, Swift\u2019s decision to record her now-iconic \u201cTaylor\u2019s <\/em>Versions\u201d of albums from her days at Big Machine Records had brought renewed attention to the importance of artists owning their masters. Swift managed to buy the rights to her original albums earlier this year. Swift herself acknowledged during her appearance on New Heights<\/em> <\/em>earlier this month that master ownership wasn\u2019t often discussed among fans before she made her stand, calling it an \u201cindustry-centric conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cOne thing I think is really great that has come about because of this,\u201d Swift told Travis and Jason Kelce, \u201cis that I have so many new artists come up to me now and say, \u2018Hey I didn\u2019t even know this was a thing, and when I went to negotiate for my record deal, I negotiated to have my masters revert back to me after a certain number of years.\u2019 It\u2019s not for everyone. Not everyone cares about this. Artist to artist, artists have different priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n
