The Oscars shortlists are revealed on Dec. 16, with 15 international films selected to be voted on by Academy members in all branches who commit to watch all 15 films. Oscar nominations will be revealed on Jan. 22.<\/p>\n
\n\tTurkey was the first country out of the gate, selecting \u201cOne of Those Days When Hemme Dies,\u201d which premiered at last year\u2019s Venice Film Festival. The Czech Republic chose \u201cI\u2019m Not Everything I Want to Be\u201d after a controversial process, while Switzerland selected medical drama \u201cLate Shift.\u201d <\/p>\n
\n\tPalestine submitted Annemarie Jacir\u2019s historical drama \u201cPalestine 36,\u201d Ireland went with Gar O\u2019Rourke\u2019s Ukrainian-language doc \u201cSanatorium,\u201d Bulgaria selected Milko Lazarov\u2019s modern folktale \u201cTarika,\u201d and Thailand chose Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke\u2019s romantic ghost story \u201cA Useful Ghost.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tRecently, Germany selected Mascha Schilinski\u2019s intergenerational drama \u201cSound of Falling,\u201d and Austria chose Bernhard Wenger\u2018s social satire \u201cPeacock.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAustria has selected Bernhard Wenger\u2018s social satire \u201cPeacock\u201d as its entry in the Best International Feature Film category of the 98th Academy Awards.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cPeacock\u201d had its world premiere in Venice Critics\u2019 Week last year, and MK2 sold it to more than 40 countries. It will be released in U.S. theaters on Sept. 19 by Oscilloscope.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe film stars Albrecht Schuch, who was BAFTA nominated for \u201cAll Quiet on the Western Front.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cPeacock\u201d centers on the cultured and confident Matthias, who is available \u2013 for a reasonable fee \u2013 to fill any social role you desire, from \u201cthe perfect son\u201d to the \u201cenlightened boyfriend,\u201d or even \u201cpilot dad\u201d to impress your classmates on Bring Your Parent to School Day. But while Matthias is at the top of his game professionally, his personal life begins to crumble as he detaches from his own identity and burrows deeper into his fictitious lives.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

\n\t\u201cSound of Falling\u201d is set in a secluded farmstead in Germany\u2019s Altmark region. For over a century, the walls have breathed the lives of the people who live here, their tastes, their existence in time.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe film tells the story of four women from different eras \u2013 Alma (1910s), Erika (1940s), Angelika (1980s) and Nelly (2020s) \u2013 whose lives are eerily intertwined. Each of them experiences their childhood or youth on this farm, but as they roam through their own present, traces of the past \u2013 unspoken fears, repressed traumas, buried secrets \u2013 reveal themselves to them.<\/p>\n
\n\tAlma discovers that she was named after her deceased sister and believes she must follow the same fate. Erika loses herself in a dangerous fascination with her disabled uncle. Angelika balances between a death wish and a lust for life, trapped in a fragile family system. And finally there\u2019s Nelly, growing up in apparent security, who is haunted by intense dreams and the unconscious burden of the past. When a tragic event repeats itself on the farm, the boundaries between past and present begin to blur.<\/p>\n

\n\tThailand\u00a0has selected \u201cA Useful Ghost\u201d (Pee Chai Dai Ka) as its submission for the international feature film category at the 98th\u00a0Academy Awards, the country\u2019s National Federation of Motion Pictures and Contents Associations has revealed.<\/p>\n
\n\tIt debuted at the Cannes Critics\u2019 Week earlier this year, where it won the grand prize.<\/p>\n
\n\tDirected by debutant Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke, \u201cA Useful Ghost\u201d follows March, who is mourning his wife Nat after she dies from dust pollution. When her spirit returns by possessing a vacuum cleaner, their unconventional human-ghost relationship faces resistance from his family. To prove her worth and their love, Nat offers to cleanse a factory haunted by the ghost of a worker whose death shut down operations. The film ingeniously reimagines the ghost story as a satirical romantic comedy, a deliberate departure from Thailand\u2019s renowned horror cinema traditions.<\/p>\n

Tarika has started developing \u201cbutterfly wings,\u201d a bone condition she inherited from her mother and which for a long time has been a source of superstition in the village.
