\n\tOrlando Bloom is all in favor of getting the original \u201cPirates of the Caribbean\u201d cast together for the sixth movie that\u2019s been long in development. Appearing at Fan Expo Chicago (via Entertainment Weekly), Bloom rallied for the returns of Johnny Depp\u2018s Jack Sparrow, Kiera Knightley\u2019s Elizabeth Swann and his own Will Turner. <\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cEverything is in the writing, right? Everything is on the page, and I think there\u2019s definitely, I\u2019m sure there\u2019s a way to create something,\u201d Bloom said. \u201cI would personally love to see everybody back. I think the way to win on that one is to get everybody back. If they can, and if everybody wanted to go back.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tAll three original characters debuted in 2003\u2019s \u201cThe Curse of the Black Pearl\u201d and headlined a trilogy that included 2006\u2019s \u201cDead Man\u2019s Chest\u201d and 2007\u2019s \u201cAt World\u2019s End.\u201d Only Depp\u2019s Jack Sparrow continued on with 2011\u2019s \u201cOn Stranger Tides\u201d and 2017\u2019s \u201cDead Men Tell No Tales\u201d (Bloom and Knightley popped up in the credits scene of the latter). The \u201cPirates\u201d movies have collectively grossed $4.5 billion worldwide. <\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cMy thing is, if the script was great and \u2014 ideally it was everybody \u2014 it\u2019d be kind of like in for a penny, in for a pound, you know,\u201d Bloom added. \u201cWhat they\u2019re thinking\u2026is how to do it. Do you bring in a female leading character that replicates Jack in some way? I don\u2019t know. The jury is out on how to do it again, but if [the script] was great, [I\u2019d be in].\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tIt\u2019s been a long development road for a sixth \u201cPirates\u201d movie. Variety<\/em>\u00a0reported in summer 2020 that Disney was in early development on two \u201cPirates\u201d movies: A female-led reboot led by Margot Robbie and a proper sixth film in the original franchise. Robbie told\u00a0Vanity Fair\u00a0in November 2022 that Disney was not interested in her \u201cmore of a female-led\u201d movie, although producer Jerry Bruckheimer downplayed the claim by later telling\u00a0EW\u00a0<\/a>there\u2019s still room for both \u201cPirates\u201d movies to exist and \u201cI think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tJeff Nathanson,\u00a0who wrote the script for \u201cDead Men Tell No Tales,\u201d is handling screenwriting duties for what would be the sixth \u201cPirates,\u201d but the details of the plan remain unclear. Bruckheimer said last summer\u00a0that he would be open to bringing Depp\u2019s Jack Sparrow back, which has been a question mark has Depp remains ousted from Hollywood due to legal troubles and his 2022 libel trial against Amber Heard.\u00a0That\u2019s soon to change though, as Depp is headlining the Lionsgate action comedy \u201cDay Drinker\u201d alongside Penelope Cruz.<\/p>\n \n\tBruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly earlier this month that he has spoken to Depp about returning as Jack Sparrow, adding: \u201cIf he likes the way the part\u2019s written, I think he would do it. It\u2019s all about what\u2019s on the page, as we all know\u2026 We are still working on a screenplay. We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven\u2019t quite gotten there yet, but we\u2019re close.\u201d<\/p>\n
