{"id":16420,"date":"2025-08-18T07:34:03","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T07:34:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/naijaglobalnews.org\/?p=16420"},"modified":"2025-08-18T07:34:03","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T07:34:03","slug":"hollywood-stars-react-and-pay-tribute-to-actor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/naijaglobalnews.org\/?p=16420","title":{"rendered":"Hollywood Stars React and Pay Tribute to Actor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tA host of Hollywood luminaries took to social media to pay tribute to British acting icon Terence Stamp, who died on Sunday at 87.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tStamp was an enduring cultural icon of the Swinging \u201960s who first made his name with films like <em>Billy Budd<\/em>, <em>Far From the Madding Crowd<\/em>, <em>Poor Cow<\/em> and <em>Teorema<\/em>\u00a0before finding later mainstream success with roles in <em>Superman II<\/em>, <em>The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert<\/em>, <em>Big Eyes<\/em> and <em>Last Night in Soho.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFilmmaker Edgar Wright, who worked with Stamp on his 2021 feature <em>Last Night in Soho<\/em>, wrote on X, \u201cTerence was kind, funny, and endlessly fascinating. I loved discussing music with him (his brother managed The Who, and he\u2019s name-checked in The Kinks\u2019 Waterloo Sunset) or reminiscing about his films, going back to his debut in <em>Billy Budd. <\/em>He spoke of his last shot in that film, describing a transcendental moment with the camera \u2014 a sense of becoming one with the lens. Decades later, while directing him, I witnessed something similar. The closer the camera moved, the more hypnotic his presence became. In close-up, his unblinking gaze locked in so powerfully that the effect was extraordinary. Terence was a true movie star: the camera loved him, and he loved it right back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLegendary Hollywood producer Gale Anne Hurd, who worked with Stamp on 1988\u2019s <em>Alien Nation<\/em>, tweeted, \u201cTerence Stamp was a brilliant actor. I think he and Peter O\u2019Toole not only had the most mesmerizing eyes \u2026 but delivered equally indelible performances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tActor Lou Diamond Phillips, who starred with Stamp in <em>Young Guns<\/em>, wrote on X, \u201cTerribly saddened to hear this. We were all incredibly privileged to have worked with him on <em>Young Guns.<\/em> He grounded all of us and truly elevated the filming experience. Such class and artistry. What a kind, beautiful, generous man. RIP\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOn X, Stamp\u2019s <em>The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert<\/em> co-star Guy Pearce wrote, \u201cFairwell dear Tel. You were a true inspiration, both in &amp; out of heels. We\u2019ll always have Kings Canyon, Kings road &amp; F\u2019ing ABBA. Wishing you well on your way \u2018Ralph\u2019! xxxx\ud83d\udc95\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSpeaking to the <em>Guardian<\/em>, <em>Priscilla<\/em> writer-director Stephen Elliott said, \u201cWe talked long and hard about why he\u2019d initially said no [to the role]. It was fear. And fair enough \u2014 you have got to remember we were coming out of the HIV\/Aids mess. It was a taboo subject. I looked at the work that he\u2019d done all the way through, like the Italian years when he worked with Fellini and Pasolini, and thought: this was a man who took chances. And I think he was at absolutely the right moment in his life where he was ready for another chance. Terence admitted he was absolutely terrified to play Bernadette \u2014 he was being voted one of the best-looking men on earth and suddenly in <em>Priscilla<\/em> he was, and this is a direct quote, \u2018dressed up as an old dog.\u2019 But he put the pain of what he was going through into the performance, and that\u2019s what made the film.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tElliott added, \u201cTerence kept to himself. He was an enigma.
