The documents were found in a printer at Hotel Captain Cook, a four-star hotel in Anchorage that is near the military base where the summit took place.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tTrump and Putin have had a hot and cold relationship, with Trump alternately taunting him and praising him. On Friday, the two leaders walked a red carpet together, as they met to discuss a potential end to Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine. The meeting ended abruptly without a Ukraine ceasefire deal. Trump told reporters it was \u201can extremely productive meeting,\u201d but they \u201cdidn\u2019t get there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe documents show which officials were involved in the summit. A \u201c2:2\u201d meeting took place among Trump; Steve Witkoff, special envoy for peace missions; Putin; and Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Putin for foreign policy and Putin\u2019s \u201cAmerica guru.\u201d Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent were also involved, among others.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tThe documents show that Trump planned to give Putin an \u201cAmerican bald eagle desk statue.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tThe discovery of the documents \u201cstrikes me as further evidence of the sloppiness and the incompetence of the administration,\u201d Jon Michaels, a professor of law at UCLA, told NPR. \u201cYou just don\u2019t leave things in printers. It\u2019s that simple.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tThis document breach is reminiscent of when Trump administration officials added Atlantic<\/em> Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg to a Signal chat where they discussed plans to bomb Yemen \u2014 though likely less embarrassing.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tThe lunch, which did not end up happening, was to be held \u201cin honor of his excellency Vladimir Putin.\u201d The seating chart shows assigned spots for 13 officials, with Americans on one side and Russians on the other.
