\n\tPete Davidson was just 20 years old when he was cast on Saturday Night Live<\/em> in 2014. Looking back now, he says that due to his lack of comedy experience, he may have rubbed some of the castmembers the wrong way.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cYou got to remember, everyone there did Second City, improv, worked so hard,\u201d Davidson said while appearing on Wednesday\u2019s The Breakfast Club<\/em> radio show. \u201cI\u2019m not saying I didn\u2019t work hard, but I was only doing comedy for three, four years.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tDespite his fears, Davidson clarified that no one from the show \u201cwas outrightly mean\u201d to him and none of his former co-stars have publicly said they believe he didn\u2019t deserve the gig.<\/p>\n \n\tDavidson said he saw himself as this \u201ckid from Staten Island that\u2019s just talking shit.\u201d Meanwhile, many of his SNL<\/em> co-stars were \u201c10, 15 years older than me and working so hard.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tHe also said that many SNL<\/em> castmembers were not paid \u201cgreat\u201d for \u201cfive or six years,\u201d which was one of the reasons he likely believed that his co-workers didn\u2019t like him.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cAt the time, you weren\u2019t allowed to do stuff outside of the show that was a payday,\u201d he claimed. \u201cIt was like the Yankees \u2014 no beards. You gotta dress up to go to the afterparty and all this shit. So I think I did rub people the wrong way, and I think it was just annoying for the cast.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \n\tHe then added that \u201cthe show as a whole loved\u201d the attention he brought them amid his highly publicized personal life because \u201cpeople are talking about SNL<\/em>.\u201d <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cNot that they weren\u2019t \u2014 I don\u2019t want someone on YouTube to be like, \u2018Motherfucker thinks he\u2019s the reason,\u2019\u201d the King of Staten Island<\/em> star clarified. \u201cI brought a lot of pop culture into the show. I made it sort of a tabloid-y, trendy thing, unintentionally.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tDavidson explained that he was \u201cembarrassed\u201d to be seen as a rookie on the show and felt that he wasn\u2019t recognized for \u201cany of the work I was doing.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThey were like, \u2018That\u2019s the fuck stick,\u2019 and that hurt so much,\u201d he recalled. \u201cAnd I think after, like, a year or two, everyone saw how sad I was about it and embarrassed. Because I was never on Instagram flexing that lifestyle at all, I was very embarrassed by it. So I think after a while, they understood it. But at first they were like, \u2018This kid\u2019s just a loud \u2014 this has nothing to do with SNL<\/em>.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tHe left the show after eight seasons in 2022 and even said goodbye on the \u201cWeekend Update\u201d segment during the season\u2019s finale. \u201cI appreciate SNL<\/em> always having my back and allowing me to work on myself and grow,\u201d Davidson said at the time. \u201cThank you to Lorne [Michaels] for never giving up on me or judging me even when everyone else was and for believing in me and allowing me to have a place that I could call home with memories that will last a lifetime.
