\n\tDuring a recent appearance on the \u201cWhere Everybody Knows Your Name\u201d podcast, the \u201cFamily Guy\u201d creator discussed the abundance of \u201cnegative\u201d stories in Hollywood, and said audiences need more movies and TV shows that \u201cgive people hope.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cThat\u2019s why I did \u2018The Orville\u2019\u2026 because when I was a kid, Hollywood was providing that voice in various forms,\u201d MacFarlane said. \u201cThere was a lot of hope, and some of the blame lies right here in this town. The dishes that we are serving up are so dystopian and so pessimistic. And yeah, there\u2019s a lot to be pessimistic about, but it\u2019s so one-sided. There\u2019s nothing we\u2019re doing that\u2019s providing anyone an image of hope.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tMacFarlane used \u201cThe Handmaid\u2019s Tale\u201d as an example. And while he admits it\u2019s a \u201cbeautifully written, beautifully directed show,\u201d he maintained there is \u201ca lot more of that [than] what we used to get from Captain Picard\u201d and the stories from \u201cStar Trek: The Next Generation.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tHe also mentioned \u201cThe Sopranos,\u201d adding that ever since that show\u2019s heyday, Hollywood is \u201call about the antihero.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201c[Telling hopeful stories is] the only thing really that Hollywood can do that\u2019s worthwhile because as we all learned from this election, nobody gives a fuck what celebrities think,\u201d he added. \u201cWe can tweet, we can talk. Like, people don\u2019t care. They don\u2019t care. What we do do well is tell stories.
