They came to Switzerland to present Brian Kirk\u2019s \u201cDead of Winter,\u201d where Wise plays a younger version of Thompson\u2019s character: a grieving widow who finds herself in the middle of a harsh Minnesota winter \u2013 and a bloody kidnapping plot.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cWe made this film together and it\u2019s a wonderful moment for us. She\u2019s miraculous. I adore you, darling,\u201d she addressed her beaming daughter, present at the famous Piazza Grande.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tVisibly moved Thompson continued: \u201cI know the world is a bit dark right now. And for this reason, the light brought by stories and by the imaginary is more important than ever. This festival is 78 years old, and I\u2019ve been around for practically the same time. I know how good it feels.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tDespite acclaimed roles and multiple accolades \u2013 she won two Academy Awards: for her script of \u201cSense and Sensibility\u201d and lead role in \u201cHowards End\u201d \u2013 she\u2019s not retiring any time soon.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cYour gift represents a sign of faith in me, and I will do my best to continue to create in a way that you, and I, will enjoy. To tell you the truth, we, who work in the cinema, are so lucky. We are able to create stories we believe in.
