\n\tHong Kong and global\u00a0film icon\u00a0Jackie Chan\u00a0received a Career Leopard award on Saturday night and an enthusiastic welcome at the\u00a078th edition\u00a0of the\u00a0Locarno Film Festival\u00a0in Switzerland. And on Sunday morning, the legendary multi-hyphenate shared insights into his career during a talk at the festival that drew a large crowd that started lining up outside the cinema well ahead of time.<\/p>\n
\n\tChan recalled working as a young stunt guy with Bruce Lee on Fist of Fury<\/em>. \u201cBruce Lee tapped my shoulder [and said] \u2018great\u2019,\u201d after several takes of a scene full of pain, he told the audience.<\/p>\n \n\tChan also shared how he earned much respect from people at a bowling alley when he brought Bruce Lee there, adding that he himself was a really good bowler.<\/p>\n \n\tAfter Lee\u2019s death, Chan was asked to remake Fist of Fury<\/em>, but it was the \u201cwrong script, wrong character,\u201d he felt. \u201cThe film just didn\u2019t make any box office.\u201d The filmmakers wanted him to become the new Lee, with the poster even saying \u201cthe new Bruce Lee [in big letter] Jackie Chan [in very small print,\u201d the star said. \u201cThe directed wanted me [to do] everything like Bruce Lee. I am not Bruce Lee.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tOne of Chan\u2019s tips for industry longevity: Always be open to and look to change and evolve. For example, he said he learned to sing because whenever he showed up for TV interviews, hosts would ask him to do a fight sequence with them. \u201cSinging is easier,\u201d Chan said to laughs.<\/p>\n \n\tLater in his career, \u201cI wanted to be an Asian Robert De Niro,\u201d the star shared, explaining that TV and other hosts would always introduce him while making a martial arts gesture. \u201cNobody introduces Robert De Niro\u201d with a martial arts gesture, Chan said, earning laughs. <\/p>\n \n\tSo he wanted to became appreciated as \u201can actor who can fight,\u201d not simply an action star known for his stunts.\u00a0\u201cOnly now they say: \u2018Jackie is a good actor\u2019,\u201d Chan offered. \u201cAnd that\u2019s why you gave me this award.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tWill Smith and the Karate Kid<\/em> remake gave Chan that chance to leave the fighting to the next generation. \u201cI had become a master,\u201d Chan said about his role.<\/p>\n \n\tChan has always made action scenes look easy, but he always had respect for the risk. \u201cI\u2019m not a Superman. I am scared every time I do a stunt,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n \n\tChan on Sunday also discussed how studios today are focused on business and money more than the art of film, saying he hopes his career saw him make something more than money. \u201cRight now, a lot of big studios are not filmmaker, they are business guys,\u201d he said. \u201cToday, it\u2019s very difficult to make a good movie.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tWhile he has been known for his discipline, Chan shared that he was \u201clazy and naughty\u201d and \u201cI liked fighting when I was young.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tFighting was also a theme the day before. \u201dI am 71.
