\n\tKamala Harris appeared on \u201cThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert\u201d Thursday night just hours after it was announced she is going to release \u201c107 Days,\u201d a memoir about the 2024 presidential election.<\/p>\n
\n\tIn a preview clip from the show, Colbert asked her if the reason she said she wouldn\u2019t run for governor of California is because she is going to run for a different office, and Harris responded, \u201cNo. I don\u2019t want to go back in the system. I think it\u2019s broken.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cI always believed that as fragile as our democracy is our systems would be strong enough to defend our most fundamental principles, and I think right now that they\u2019re not as strong as they need to be,\u201d she said. \u201cI want to travel the country, I want to listen to people, I want to talk with people and I don\u2019t want it to be transactional where I\u2019m asking for their vote.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cBut it doesn\u2019t mean we give up, that\u2019s not my point,\u201d Harris clarified. <\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cOK, because that\u2019s what I\u2019m hearing \u2014 like you don\u2019t wanna be part of the fight anymore,\u201d Colbert replied. <\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cAbsolutely not,\u201d Harris responded. \u201cI\u2019m always gonna be part of the fight.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tHarris\u2019 appearance comes on the heels of CBS\u2019s controversial decision to cancel \u201cThe Late Show.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tCBS has insisted the decision to end \u201cThe Late Show,\u201d which will end its 11-season run in May 2026, was a \u201cpurely\u201d financial one. Critics have opined that it was a politically motivated move to appease Donald Trump and help get FCC approval for Paramount\u2019s merger with Skydance Media.<\/p>\n
\n\tTwo weeks before the cancellation, Paramount Global disclosed a $16 million payment to Trump to settle his lawsuit alleging \u201c60 Minutes\u201d had deceptively edited an interview with Harris.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tMany of Cobert\u2019s late-night rivals and other celebs joined him on the show for a send-up of the viral Coldplay kiss-cam video following CBS axing \u201cThe Late Show.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cSome people see this show going away as a sign of something truly dire,\u201d Colbert said, adding, \u201cWe here at \u2018The Late Show\u2019 never saw our job as changing anything other than how you felt at the end of the day\u2026 Or rather, changing how you felt the next morning, when you watched on your phone, which is why broadcast TV is dying \u2014 you\u2019re part of the problem, look in the mirror.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cPoint is, I don\u2019t want this show to be associated with making you sad or anxious,\u201d Colbert continued. \u201cSo I thought: music, OK? That makes people happy, right? So instead of me talking, here with a song to cheer you up are two musical greats\u201d \u2014 whereupon he introduced \u201cWeird Al\u201d Yankovic and Lin-Manuel Miranda.<\/p>\n
