So my mailbox was full last night with a lot of new offers, a lot of new proposals,\u201d <strong>Bessent<\/strong> told CNBC. \u201cSo it\u2019s going to be a busy couple of days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">It comes amid confusion over when the administration\u2019s new tariff rates will come into effect. <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> said the US would start delivering tariff letters from 12:00pm ET today, but they will apparently be delayed, going into effect on 1 August and not 9 July as previously expected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Asked if the tariffs were coming into effect on 1 August or this week, <strong>Trump<\/strong> \u2013 helpfully \u2013 replied: \u201cNo, there are going to be tariffs, the tariffs, the tariffs are going to be, the tariffs. I think we\u2019ll have most countries done by July 9, yeah. Either a letter or a deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">The letters would not necessarily provide an ultimatum, according to <strong>Bessent<\/strong>. \u201cIt\u2019s just \u2018thank you for wanting to trade with the United States of America. Rescuers are working around the clock to find survivors but their efforts may be hampered by more heavy rain that is expected to fall today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Most of the fatalities were in <strong>Kerr County<\/strong>, where <strong>Camp Mystic<\/strong>, a Christian girls\u2019 camp, was deluged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Kerr county\u2019s sheriff, Larry Leitha, said at a briefing on Sunday afternoon that 68 people had been confirmed dead in the county, including 28 children, with the search continuing for the missing girls and their counselor from Camp Mystic, along the <strong>Guadalupe river<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Texas\u2019s governor, Greg Abbott, said in an earlier briefing that another 10<strong> <\/strong>fatalities had been confirmed in neighboring counties.
